AidIT NPO was founded on 16 April 2016 as an association registered with the Dept of Social Development under NPO nr 169-590 NPO. In 2020 AidIT was registered as a Public Beneficiary Organisation with the South African Revenue Service. One of AidIT’s fields of expertise is to assist other NGOs with information management making use of a codeless app platform and cloud technology.
AidIT’s main focus is the SHINE program, a holistic, integrated, systematic and family-based poverty eradication program. AidIT NPO is the best organization to implement this program because through its board and staff it has collective poverty-focused development aid experience of over 80 years. AidIT is implementing the Shine program in Ndlambe Municipality, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
In 2020, 25% of the South African population or 2,5 million families were experiencing food poverty. By far the majority of these families are experiencing multi-faceted generational poverty. Characteristics include female-headed households, a high number of children and people living in the household, low levels of education, economic inactivity, food insecurity, social exclusion and a lack of access to services. Although the majority of poor people in South Africa reside in rural areas, many extremely poor people live in townships where food insecurity, lack of sanitation and social exclusion reaches much deeper levels.
Many existing governmental and non-governmental programs are and have been striving to address the diverse development challenges faced by people living in extreme poverty. Unfortunately, these programs work in isolation lacking the needed integration and coordination to form a holistic program whereby the multitude of challenges presented by multi-faceted poverty could be addressed. Furthermore, most of these programs focus on the individual, not incorporating her or his primary living environment, the family as a unit, and thereby failing to sustainably address generational poverty.
Considering the complex nature of multi-faceted generational poverty, without the appropriate tools and know-how, it becomes impossible to design and manage the implementation of a holistic integrated family-based poverty eradication program. It is only recently that such tools and know-how have become available.
